Summer seems like a long time ago, even though it was only a month ago. Man, school sure knows how to stop all the fun! Here are some of the highlights of our summer.
We spent a lot of time swimming at friends houses. Here are Callie and Graham hanging out together after a nice swim. Love this two!
Jake was all about Super Heros at the beginning of the summer and then we let him watch Star Wars and superheros took a back seat. Now it is all about the Jedis! I mean ALL about the Jedis!
We started out the summer strong with our reading and workbook incentives. It worked for about half the summer and then there wasn't enough motivation or incentives to get these kids to sit down and work :-) That's okay, it is summer after all.
At the beginning of the summer, we went up into the mountains for a nice little hike to escape the heat. It was the perfect hike with a nice river to follow and see. We even got in and cooled off a bit. The kids did great, except Graham who wanted to be "picked up" most of the time. But every once in awhile we could distract him enough to walk on his own.
This was the sign before the trail. My kids were a little nervous, but we told them we just have to stick together and be loud (no problem with this crew) and we would be okay. So, that is just what we did. And eventually, the forgot all about the threat of mountain lions.
Our friends got a boat, so we got invited a few times to the lake with them. My kids loved the lake and loved riding the tube. Hannah loved it when it went fast. Ella liked it when it went "not-so-fast".
It took Jake one trip to the lake to get used to the whole life vest thing and then after that he didn't have a care in the world in the lake. He loved floating and jumping into the water and couldn't get enough of it. I loved that he wasn't afraid of the water anymore!

This isn't a very good picture, but the girls did a choir camp and this year it was NEWSIES. It was fun and they had a ball. They went each day for a week to learn to sing, the songs, choreography etc. Then at the end of the week, they gave their performance/concert. We love doing this each and every summer!
What is summer without a trip to the beach. The day we went was perfect. No too cold, but not too hot.
This trip we found a ton of hermit crabs by the coral, so we decided to do some digging. We spent hours digging for crabs. They were everywhere if you knew where to dig. I came to the conclusion crabs are the "cockroach of the sea". Not my favorite, but it was fun to search and find them. The kids LOVED it!
Of course, we visited our local farmer's market each friday night. We love getting fresh produce and dancing to the local bands. And our favorite night is the National Pole Vaulting competition. Always a fun night. the kids usually come away with a ton of goodies that they end up throwing out to the crowd.
We invited some friends to go bowling with us for Family Home Evening. It was fun to be with friends and the kids loved being together.
Graham visited the dentist for the first time. He was a trooper and just took it all in. it helps when you have a movie to watch. That is what he is doing here!
And to top off the entry is our yearly visit to our church's raisin/grape vineyard. Each year we go to help harvest the grapes. It is a hot, dirty activity, but Hannah loves it. She can't wait to go each year. She always has such a good attitude about serving. She is a good example to us all.
