Fun Movie Night

We watched a fun movie that other night as a family. Chris gave me "If a Man Answers". It is an oldie movie with Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin. It was a darling movie. The jist of the movie is this: Rich socialite, Sandra Dee meets and marries photographer Bobby Darin and attempts to "train" him to be the perfect husband using a dog training book.

Some things I noticed...

1) Sandra Dee's outfits were to die for! I loved each and every one of her them and there were a lot of outfits. I think living in the 50's would have been fabulous, if not for the fashion alone!

2) All the men watching the movie agreed with the "dog training lessons" discussed and used in the movie. So, ladies... treating your husbands like a pet might have some validity.

3) I don't watch many old movies, but I have to say Sandra Dee is adorable. I can see why she was the american sweetheart of her time.

So, if you are looking for a movie to watch that is a oldie but goodie.... check out If a Man Answers!

Our Christmas Begins...

The girls and I are off to Colorado for the holidays. For me, today is like Christmas day... I have been waiting so long to go home. It will be great to have the whole family together and to celebrate in our own home after 3 years of celebrating Christmas other places.

We are hoping to have a white Christmas (We know we will have the coldness for it). Hannah is at the age where Christmas is getting more and more exciting. And tons of little kids everywhere, what more could you want.

So, in case I don't blog before Christmas, I hope all of you have a great Christmas day! As my daughter is yelling around the house right now "It is Christmas day!" I am off to open pretend gifts under the tree.

Merriest Place Report

Our trip to Disneyland was full of holiday cheer with about half of the U.S. continent. First off, it was a lot more crowded than we thought it was going to be. Friday was just a disaster. It was so busy that gave people the choice to go behind the buildings of main street instead of dealing with the craziness of main street... very undisney-like if you ask me.

But besides that, again we had several "magic moments". Here is a recap:

1) We had lunch with the princesses. We were able to chat with Cinderella, Belle, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. It was pleasant and pretty good food, but we came to the conclusion that we enjoyed Breakfast with Minnie much more.

2) We were in Adventureland just hanging out, trying to figure out our plan of attack for the next few hours when Hannah starts yelling "Jasmine! Jasmine!" and running away from us. I had no idea was she was doing or yelling out, but lo and behold there was Jasmine walking through the VERY busy streets of Adventureland all by herself.

Now for of those who know, when the characters are out walking, it is usually with a mission so as to not be stopped constantly by "fans". But she stopped for Hannah to give her a hug (she didn't have much choice Hannah was yelling at her and basically attacked her with a hug). But then Jasmine told Hannah she could walk with her. So, hand and hand, Hannah and Jasmine walked together down the crowded streets of Disneyland. Everyone was watching this "magic moment" and Hannah was oblivious as she talked Jasmine's ear off and then when we had to part ways, she kissed Hannah and gave her another big hug.

3) We were chatting with a "cast member" about her pins and after about 20 mins, we told her we had to be off to go stand in the 50 min line for the Haunted Mansion. She said it is really that long? YEP! She looked at her schedule and said "here, follow me". So, we followed her to the front of the line and walked right up to the entrance and right into the ride. It was amazing. We didn't have to wait a minute. Now that is what I call a "magic moment"!

4) Hannah had the best time with Goofy. He was so much fun. He looked at her postcard and was so excited to see himself and Hannah together he started jumping up and down. So, that got Hannah jumping up and down. Then he asked Hannah her name. She told him and he started to act like he was a rock star singing.... Uncle Brian said "yep, just like Hannah Montana" and Goofy went nuts again! So, Hannah started laughing and jumping up and down more. They danced together and he gave her tons of hugs and kisses. It was really so much fun... goofy is the best!

Keep it Simple

I had to put together some gifts for my young women and being in the mental state I am in (not having the desire to do much)... I came up with these simple bags. I share them only because if you need a quick packaging idea... this is simple and easy and I thought they turned out cute.

I got the bags at Target in the gift wrapping section. Clothes pins and the tags I got here.

I filled them up with candy and lip gloss/chapstick from the Dollar Spot at Target. They are fun flavors like Jolly Ranchers, Starburst, Nerds, etc. So, they smell and taste great. I thought they would be fun and old school, so who wouldn't like them.

There you go... Christmas gifts made super easy!

Time to Confess

Many of you know this by now and a number of you have probably guessed it by now, but for the others of you that don't know, I feel I have to confess why my blog has been so neglected the past few months.

I am pregnant! We are excited and thrilled to add on to our little family. But as you can guess, my first trimester is full of morning sickness, exhaustion and a lack of desire to do anything. I am starting to feel better and little by little getting my productivity back.

But because of the timing, this year's holiday's will be lacking in a few things. I want all my family and friends to know that I didn't forget you, but that I am not sending out Christmas cards this year and making little gifts for friends and neighbors. I promise to be better next year.

And as for the blog, after the new year...I promise to be better and have more to share! But until then; expect only "blotchy" entries.

Oh, and here is the Christmas card I was going to send out... Merry Christmas!

Ready for some Holiday Cheer...

Disney-style. We are off tonight to visit the merriest place on earth. We renewed our annual passes and had to his Disneyland at least once this holiday season. For those that don't know, it is like a completely different park during the holidays.

We can't wait to see It's a Small World (it is finally open again), to Toy Story Mania again, eat lunch with the princesses and of course pin trading :-)

Hope you all have a great weekend.

So cute

Okay, kids are so cute. Hannah loves to pray. and at night when she says her personal prayers it goes a little something like this.

"Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this day. Please protect me from the pretend monsters and pretend swipers and from my imaginations." This has been her prayer for weeks. I told her there are no such things as monsters and she says "no mommy, they are pretend."

At least she can find comfort in praying monsters and swipers away :-)

Catch-up Time

A lot has happened in the past few weeks, so here is an entry to catch up on the doings and goings of our little family.

1) I had a birthday and the girls made me a cake to celebrate. I love this picture. Not because of me (with no make-up on by the way), but my girls and I (not many pictures of just us, since I am usually behind the lens). It captures pure happiness from all of us.

2) The Sunday after my birthday, Hannah decided to fall off her stool and cut open her head. I was hugging her and rubbing her head and thought to myself "man, she is sweaty" and then I looked at my hand and it wasn't sweat. Thank heavens I knew that the head bleeds a lot, because there was a whole lotta of blood. So, off to the urgent care and an hour later she came home with a staple in her head. And a little trauma to Hannah.

3) We went to Salt Lake City for the Thanksgiving holiday. It was great to be with family. Some highlights of the trip:

* picking out a tree and decorating it with nana and papa and the family. Hannah loved seeing the ornaments with her dad on them as a child.

* Hannah picking leaves anytime we went outside and then bringing them in the house and decorating the christmas tree with them.

* For Thanksgiving dinner my kids eating only the rolls.

* decorating gingerbread houses as a family. Hannah had a blast and Ella loved eating the chimney (hence no chimney on our house).

* Celebrating an aunt and uncles birthday and best part of all playing with the cousins!

Happy Turkey Day!

We are off to SLC for Thanksgiving. I just wanted to take this time to write a few things I am thankful for.

1) my husband, girls and family. What would life be without family and the knowledge that we will be together forever.

2) My house/home. I think of the luxuries of life we have... air conditioning, plumbing, dishwashers and washing machines, cold water from my fridge, and the nice things inside my home. When you think of the world, we have more than enough.

3) of course my faith. I wouldn't be who I am without the gospel in my life and my testimony of my Father in Heaven and our Savior.

4) Opportunities and experiences I have had. education, travels, friendships and my longer than normal single life.

5) My heritage. When I think about my ancestors and where I came from I am overwhelmed by the people that came before me and allowed me the life I have now.

and now for the frivolous things:

1) my new iphone.. needless to say I love it!

2) our annual passes to Disneyland. We love going there as a family.

3) our fairly new king-size bed. Sleeping has a whole new meaning.

4) nursery at church... words can not describe!

5) Sabra hummus and Stacy's naked pita chips (they are a staple in our house, right now).

I'm tempted

The other day I was out and about on the web searching blogs and I came across this little gem. Okay, so this girl/woman reupholstered this chair all by herself and it was her first time ever reupholstering a piece of furniture. I have to say I am completely amazed.

How cute is this chair?!? So, of course it got me thinking. I now have a rocking chair just like it. I so badly want to sew a slipcover for it, so it can be just as cute! But the catch is that I have no idea how to do it, but I am seriously considering taking a stab at it.

So, we will see if I get up the guts to do something similar to my chair. If anyone has any advice.... I will take it. Please share.

PS: The woman also is a fantastic quilter too (if you are interested).

Soccer Season '08

Soccer season has come and gone at the Williams household. And I am now just getting to posting pictures. Hannah did much better this year. The kids were her age and she tried to get the ball more often. (Although it doesn't look like it in one of the pictures as she is walking away from the ball as everyone is running after it.)

Her team was called the sharks and they had a great winnning season (they always do :-) But the best part of the season was the last game. She was really into the game and actually kicked the ball a lot. Towards the end of the game, she got the ball and kicked it and kicked it and made her very first goal. It was awesome. She was so excited and her excitement caught everyone's attention. She came running to us saying "I got a goal". The picture with her hands in the air is right after the goal as she is running to share it with us. And then the celebratory high five with her sister! It was a great last game at the end of a great season! Go Sharks!

Happy Birthday to...

ME! Today I turn 36 years old. I am on the upturn to 40... and I don't know how I feel about that. the other day we were out with friends and started talking about how you always see yourself as you were when you were in your mid-20's. It is so true. I subconsciously view myself as 25.

Whether I am tugging 2 kids with me at the mall, I figure everyone sees a cute little 25 year old mom. Or when I am at mutual hanging out with the young women/young men, I think why does it take so long to become their friends, I am only a few years older than them. Or when I am driving in my minivan and Scripture Scout is blaring from the radio and boys look over... for a moment, I think "is it because I look so cute and young?" Then I realize they are probably asking themselves "What is the wonderful book of gold?"

Each day as much as I like to think I am still in my mid-20's, reality hits my little dream world and these are the moments that remind that "Yes, I am indeed 36 years old (and not 25!)

- I see myself in the mirror in all my glory and I definitely am not 25!

- I talk to the youth and realize I don't know half of what they are talking about.

- I haven't read Twilight and don't know if I ever will!

- Getting up off the ground after being down for a while... my body is not 25 years old.

- birthdays are not what they used to be. I am just thrilled to have a night off (more or less).

- all it takes to feel pretty is lipstick and heels.

- my purse isn't full of my stuff, it is full of cheerios, fruit snacks, toys and used kleenex.

- and most importantly, I try to live my life for what's important and not for what I think others think of me.

So, there you have it. I wonder if I will ever see myself at my real age? I will probably be in my 70s and thinking I am some cute little 25 year old grandma... which would be fine as long as I am not trying to dress like one or look like one... if so, please oh please (family and friends) wake me up from my dream world!

Logo-a-go-go

I have been working on some more logos and thought I would share some of my concepts for one client. She is a great photographer and is beginning to get serious about starting her photography business. A new logo should help :-)

I forgot...

to post this picture on Halloween day. This is a picture of myself and my siblings (minus Jill) one halloween many, many years ago. I love this picture, so I thought I would share, even though it is several weeks late. But come on if we can celebrate Christmas on Nov 1st, than we can continue celebrating Halloween a few weeks after too :-)

My Latest CraigsList Find

Every since my last rocking chair broke, I have been on the hunt for a specific rocker/chair. I wanted one that was soft and comfortable. My dream rocker would be Pottery Barn's Elise Chaise. But considering I don't have $1300 to spend on a chair, I had to put that dream aside.

So, I then wanted any PB rocking chair. They are soft and comfortable and I realized I really wanted it to rock. But again, I didn't have $900 to spend on a rocking chair either. So, to Craiglist I went. I found one PB rocking chair on craigslist months before, but wondering if I would ever see one again until yesterday.

I found it, finally! I just picked up the PB Lullaby Rocking chair (with the butter brushed twill slipcover). It is in like new condition too! And I didn't spend $900! I paid the same amount I would pay for your typical rocking chair at babies-r-us.

I am so excited! Once again, I love Craigslist. Now I just need to find that china hutch I have been searching for :-)

Young Women's Lesson #40 - Loving Yourself and Others

Start the lesson by playing “Love Yourself” Bingo

I printed out bingo cards and we played bingo, but before the girls could put a marker over the number, I asked them a question. If they answered the question “yes” they could put a marker over the number. Here are the questions:

1) Are you happy today?
2) Did you look at yourself today and think “I like myself?”
3) did you read your scriptures today?
4) did you say your morning prayers?
5) Do you love yourself?
6) Did you thank Heavenly Father for your blessings this weekend?
7) Did you do an act of service this weekend?
8) Did you make a new friend this week?
9) Can you name one talent you possess?
10) Have you given someone a compliment this weekend?
11) When you look in he mirror do you like what you see?
12) Have you shown your family you love them today?
13) Did you listen to the talks in Sacrament meeting?
14) Have you been a good friend lately?
15) Did you do something “awesome” this week?
16) Have you used the power of the atonement in your life recently?

Question: What does it mean to Love Yourself?

Explain that proper love for oneself is not conceit or pride. A person who loves herself in the right way knows that she is a child of God, that God loves her, and that she has many talents. But she knows that other people are also children of God and that she should use her talents to serve them.

Explain that the Savior himself told us that we should love ourselves. Have a class member read Matthew 22:36–39.

QUESTION: What do these verses tell us about loving ourselves?

Explain that these verses clearly teach that we should love others, but they also teach that we should love ourselves. The Savior said that we should love others as we love ourselves. This means that we should love ourselves as much as we love other people.

QUESTION: Ask the young women to name some ways they can show that they love themselves in the right way. Elaborate on each item.

− Treating your body with respect
− Read, watch and listen to good things.
− Keeping yourself morally clean
− Forgiving yourself after sufficiently repenting of a sin
− Do not comparing yourself to others can … result in either feelings of inferiority or superiority. …
− Accept yourself as the unique person (faults and all)
− Show compassion toward all people.

OBJECT LESSON:
Hold up a $1 bill. Ask, "Who would like this $1 bill?" Hands should start going up. "I am going to give this $5 to one of you but first, let me do this." Proceed to crumple the dollar bill up. Ask, "Who still wants it?" Still hands will stay in the air. "Well," what if I do this?" Drop it on the ground and start to grind it into the floor with your shoe. Pick it up, now all crumpled and dirty. "Now who still wants it?" Still hands are in the air. "My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I do to the money, you still want it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $1.

Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value in God's eyes. To Him, dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to Him.

THOUGHT: The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we are but by WHOSE we are! We never lose our worth!

Point out to the class that every young woman was loved by her Father in Heaven in the premortal existence. His love is eternal and unchanging. She is loved now by her Heavenly Father. Have the class name some of their blessings that show that their Heavenly Father loves them. Go around the class at least two times, asking each young woman to suggest blessings she has received from her Heavenly Father.

LOVING OTHERS:

Explain that when we have learned to love ourselves, we are then better prepared to extend love to others. If we esteem ourselves, we can then esteem others.

QUESTION: Why do you think that a young woman who loves herself is better able to serve other people?

SCRIPTURE STORY:
Explain that in the Book of Mormon we read of Enos, the son of Jacob who was the son of Lehi. Enos was taught by his father to have faith in God, but until the time of this story he had not fully applied the things he had learned.

Ask the assigned class member to tell the story of Enos as found in Enos 1:1–18. Then discuss the story using questions like the following:

* What did Enos do so that his sins could be forgiven? (He had faith in Christ, and he prayed all day and all night.)

* How did he know that his sins were forgiven? (He heard the voice of the Lord telling him that he was forgiven.)

* Who did he think of as soon as he heard the words of the Lord? (His brethren, the Nephites and Lamanites.)

* What did he want the Lord to do for the Lamanites? (Preserve a record so that if the people lost their faith and were destroyed, their descendants could know the truth.)

* Why do you think he was concerned about his brethren after the Lord had forgiven his sins? Let the young women discuss.

Explain that when he knew that the Lord loved him and forgave his sins, he felt at peace with himself and loved himself more than he ever had. Once he felt this love and peace, he felt a great love for his fellowmen and wanted the Lord to bless them. Read Enos 1:19 to show that after this experience, Enos spent much time and effort trying to teach and help his brethren.

OBJECT LESSON:
One object lesson I love is short and sweet. Before your lesson, take a big balloon and blow it up, don't tie it off. Using a sharpie marker, write "love" on the balloon. Let the air out.

On Sunday, share how this balloon is like the love of yourself and those around us.

When we love ourselves we are able to be more kind, smile, compliment others, etc. We are helping fill another’s feeling of love.

Example: You look great today! (blow into the balloon) Continue complementing until the balloon is full. Likewise when we are unkind, say hurtful things, etc., we deflate other's feeling of individual worth.

Let the balloon go. Watch it flop all over the room. Very effective & fun, too. Blow it up again and tie it off.

HANDOUT: I gave the girls a balloon tied to this quote "The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we are but by WHOSE we are! We never lose our worth!" and a $1 bill.

TESTIMONY:
Remind the young women that as we learn to love ourselves in the way we should, we are better able to serve our fellowmen and we feel better about ourselves.

Loving these

I love Roobeez, but at the same time I don't love how much they cost. It is hard to dish out the much money for shoes that will get thrashed, even know I know they are great. But here is a great alternative!

These shoes are just as cute, but more than half the price. They are called Bugaloo. They have adorable shoes (even the cute maryjanes that everyone loves) and only $15. 15 buckaroos... give me some bugaloos!
