They have the Sillies!

The other day Chris decided he had to capture Jake during his meal. With banana on his head and not a care in the world. Of course, once the girls caught on, everyone had to do a silly pose. Here are my kids in all their silliness and glory!

Board & Racks

With the help of someone from my husband's work, we were finally able to get my new homemade bulletin board up and my cute coat racks. I picked up in Logan, UT. Aren't they so cute. I got them at Real Deals (another store I wish I had here) for $13 each. I think that is a steal and they have so much character. Love them all together, now i have to order a new bench to house all our shows and clean up my laundry room a bit. Always a work in progress.

Pioneers and Garlic

This weekend was another eventful weekend of fun. It started out with a Pioneer Day Breakfast to celebrate the pioneers trek to the west. the kids had a parade where if you dressed up like pioneers, they could join the parade. I couldn't find my kids any costumes on such short notice, so my husband came up with the idea of having them be "crickets and seagulls".

I went with that idea and I made the girls signs to wear saying "crickets" and "seagulls" and than like any good parade (if you have every been to a parade in a small town in Utah" there is always candy (specifically taffy) throwing. So, we bought the girls taffy and had them throw the candy out to the crowd. (I am not sure how many people got the candy throwing part of the costume), but it doesn't matter, who doesn't like candy.

The girls loved throwing out the candy and people enjoyed our costumes, so overall it worked for everyone.

After the breakfast, we headed over to Gilroy for their annual Garlic Festival. We have always wanted to go, but every year I am either pregnant or just had a baby, so this year we thought we better do it. A few things we learned:

1) not a great place for kids. It would have been a much better trip without the kids.
2) Be prepared for hot weather, crowds of people and a lot of dirt and dust.
3) Garlic ice cream isn't as bad as it sounds. But, no I would buy a gallon of it.
4) the food is good, but as you can expect.... they DO NOT skimp on the garlic... not at all.
5) the best part for me was visiting all the fruit stands on the way home. The fruit and produce was beautiful and tasted so good!!
6) If you are near the central coast or Gilroy, stop off at Casa de Fruta.... it is well worth the stop.

PS - in the picture of the girls, you might have noticed I spelled "seagull" wrong. I fixed it before the parade, but after I took the photo.

Craft Club - Bugs

This week for Craft Club, we made bug jars. I found the idea from Oriental Trading Company and their bug jars here. But I thought, hey I can make those. So, I started to save and clean baby food jars and cut out stuff on my own and I think they turned out just as cute, (if not cuter :-) Mostly because of the glitter grass!

The kids loved going outside to find rolly-pollies to put in their jars. But the bad news is that I didn't put holes in the lids, so I feel bad for the bugs. Don't call me a "bug-killer", really I feel bad, but I couldn't very well, tell my kids they couldn't find bugs for their jars. And I couldn't easily make the holes. My kids carry their jars everywhere and are good to make sure they get air every few hours.

And then for snacks, we had Pudding Dirt (pudding, smashed oreos and a gummy worm). Another great craft day with the kids.

CRAFT: bug jars

Singing in the Rain

This is for my family. This is a little dance the kids did during our family reunion. It was cute and the kids loved it. Sorry it is so small. It is the best I can do, to keep it under the file size to upload. enjoy!

A Long Time Ago...

Literally. A few months ago, the Star Wars in Concert came to town. We ended up taking our daughter (who has never seen the show) and her friend/neighbor with us. Hannah loved it and now is very interested in the story and anything Star Wars. But that night she had bad dreams of Darth Vader, so we are putting her desire to see the movie off a few years.

It was really a great concert. I highly recommend seeing it if it comes to your town. The music is unbelievable! You forget you are listening to a live orchestra and then your realize it and you are just amazed by it all. The movie and light show is just as fun and fascinating.

Before the show, they had characters and memorabilia out for the concert-goers to see. The girls wanted to get their pictures with everything they saw. Here are just a few shots I got before my camera battery died!

Logo and Make Over

You might have noticed I revamped my blog yet again. I decided to change it up a bit... but not much.

Along with that I wanted to share a logo few logos I completed recently. I am still loving what I am doing when it comes to graphic design and logo design. Thanks to all my clients!

Craft Club - Pigs

We started up Craft Club again this week. We had a blast with the theme: Pigs and Pancakes. Really it was pigs, but then I decided to read "if you Give a Pig a Pancake", of course we had to serve pancakes for the treat. We made pig faces using cotton balls that I spray painted pink. I love who they turned out.

Book: If You give a Pig a Pancake
Craft: Cotton Ball pig faces
Treat: pancakes

I forgot I have to give credit to Katherine Marie for the inspiration and idea for this theme.

Proud me!

I have been needing a place to put the dozens and dozens of arts and crafts goodies my daughter makes on a weekly basis. And now with Ella joining in the fun and soon to start pre-school, I really needed to figure this out sooner than later.

So, I decided that I would have to make one (because I needed a very large and long bulletin board). I created this little beauty all on my own and I am pretty proud of myself. I designed and pieced it all together with a little help from my dad (running everything past him) and my neighbor (thanks for cutting my wood molding, neighbor)!

I love how it turned out. Now I just have to get this heavy thing up on my wall securely. I need to pull out my drill and that makes me nervous, since it will be my first time. As soon as I get it up and my new coat racks I picked up in Utah, I will show you how it looks in their new home (aka: the laundry room).

Cascade Springs Family Hike

I wasn't very good at taking pictures during our trip to Utah. I think it is being responsible for 3 young kids that puts the camera on the backshelf. I need to change that! But luckily others had their cameras so I was able to get some fun pictures of our hike/walk at Cascade Springs near Sundance.

It really is the perfect little walk for families and the scenery is just beautiful! Here are a few photos of our family and the fun we had!

Catch Up!

It has been quiet here on the blog. I just got home from our trip to Utah. So much to write about and much to share. I just wanted you to know that I am back and will start blogging again soon. Basically when I can find time between unpacking and laundry. Hope you are having a great summer!

Odds and Ends

It seems like I have fallen behind a bit on little things I have done and haven't gotten them up on the blog. So, in order to catch up, I am going to have to combine several posts into one misc. post here.

Chris' birthday from here on out will always be a bit lacking (since he shares his birthday with our son). This year he got a few necessities, but the fun item I put together for him was this gift of Root Beers and Candy Bars. Two things he loves to have around the house for when the urge hits him. I got the adorable white container at Target (LOVE IT) and just filled it up. Simple and yet so cute!

Speaking of gifts, for Father's Day this year (along with his normal gifts) I put together this little hero kit for him. This woman created the kit and man am I grateful for her sharing it. It was perfect. Chris always asks me to let him be my hero. He says if I would just say "thanks for being my hero" it would go a long way. So, when I saw the kit, I thought perfect....I will show him, he is my hero! He loved it by the way.

And the cute little paint sample tag. I went to Lowe's and picked out paint samples and then Hannah and I sat down and she told me all the reasons she thinks Chris is so great and I wrote them down on the sample. So, simple and yet meaningful. I found the idea here!

I have concluded that homemade strawberry freezer jam is probably the best gift to give someone. I made some recently and gave them to neighbors, visiting teachees and friends. Who doesn't love jam? Who doesn't love fresh strawberries? Who doesn't love a gift? It really is the perfect gift and the best part is it is so easy. Next year, i have to remember to give it to teachers on Teacher Appreciation Day. Here in the central valley it is always during the same time that strawberry season kicks off. So, it is a must-do next year!

Craft Club - 4th of July

This week for craft club, I cheated just a bit. I bought some cute necklaces and bracelets from Oriental Trading Company and called it good. I couldn't really come up with a project I just loved, but I thought it would be fun for the kids to make these fun accessories so they could wear them on the 4th of July.

The kids loved making them and all agreed they will be worn to celebrate the 4th.

I don't know why, but I didn't take any pictures of the kids and I forgot to read the story I had. But for treats we had cookies (because I had a ton left over), but I was thinking of getting those red, white and blue rocket popsicles. So, there you go. We will be taking two weeks off and then back at it again. Next theme will be pigs!

Antiquing Find

I was on the hunt for a specific size frame to make a hair clip holder out of. So when my mom came to town, we headed to some antique stores to shop. We (really she) found the perfect frame and after less than an hour.... here is what I came up with. A place to hang all our hair clips.

And the floral clips you see, I made those on my own. So simple really! I just buy fake flowers at Michaels and take them apart and then glue them back to together and put a little bling in the middle and a clip on the back. Really so simple and yet so cute.

Now I just need to get my girls to wear hair clips more often. At least we have Sundays. That seems to be the day, hair clips are worn in our household.

Last Day of School

I am getting far behind in my journaling. The last day of school was over a week ago and I didn't post pictures of Hannah's last day as a kindgergarten-er. It is amazing that no matter the age, getting out of school for the summer always has such excitement. Hannah had a final school program where the kids sang a song for each month of the year. They were songs they had learned all year long. It really was so cute.

And to top off the day, Hannah's teacher made a great scrapbook for each child recapping each month of the year. It in she had taken pictures of each child for their own individual scrapbook. She took pictures each month and had the kids do art projects each month for the book and had them write, draw and answer questions to show how much they have grown, learn and develop all year long. It really is the best little gift for each kid to have! I will try and take a picture of how cute it is. A real treasure for Hannah to keep to help her remember her kindergarten year for many years to come.

Craft Club - Clowns

On Thursday we had our first Craft Club! We did the theme based on clowns. We read a book about the circus, since our library didn't have a book about clowns. We made clown faces made out of paper plates and lots of embellishments. And the then kids took home some circus cookies that I put in a little bags I got in the Dollar Spot at Target and made little tags that said "Clown'n Around."

The kids had fun creating their own clown faces and taking them home to show their parents. It was so much fun for all that I think we will do it again next week and this time we will do something Fourth of July-ish!

Book: C is for Clown (this would be a much better book to read)
Craft: clown faces
Treat: animal crackers or cookies

the cupcake smash

It is funny how each kid reacts differently to a cupcake. Some won't touch it and other devour it (at least with my kids). Jake was one that smashed it all over the place. I am not sure much got in his mouth as much as all over his highchair. He loved smashing the yellow and blue until it made green. Seriously it doesn't get more fun for him (unless you count the bath afterwards). I think that is why he made the mess, so he could have a bath!

Summer Craft Fun

I was thinking about how I would entertain my kids this summer. What would I do with them that would be fun, creative and take some time. Of course my mind went straight to arts and crafts, since Hannah loves, loves, loves arts and crafts. I also came across this website and she has sooo many cute ideas that include arts and crafts and they are all centered around different themes (even more fun).

On a side note - go and check out her site. It is so cute. Her photography is beautiful and fun all at the same time. It is inspiring to see all that she does with her kids... what a good mom!

So, I decided each week, we would do arts and craft centered around a theme. But then I got to thinking, if I am going to go through all the effort might as well invite others to join in the fun (or should I say make it more fun)! So, that is what I did. We invited the neighborhood kids over for a weekly arts and craft hour (or so). Each week we will have a theme and with that theme we will read a book, do a craft project and have a treat!

I can't wait! I think it will be so much fun for the kids and just as much fun for me! A little mini-party each week.
Here are the invitations I made for our neighbors inviting them to the Summer Craft Fun! This first week is clowns so stay tuned!
