Celebration Time

For most of the country the next few weeks, there isn't much going on as far as celebrations go, but in Kentucky this is the best time of the year. It is Derby Time! Since my parents are mission presidents in Louisville and my sister lives there, I have been to Louisville during this celebration season and it is a blast. It is really so much fun. There is so much energy and excitement.
The celebration starts weeks before the actual race. They have Thunder Over Louisville which is the most amazing fireworks display I have ever seen (which means a lot since I have lived in Boston with the 4th of July Pops fireworks display). Then various other "festi-villes" happen leading up to the main event....... the running of the roses.
So, in honor of this great celebration, I thought I would share some fun ideas just in case you wanted to have a Derby party to watch the most excited 2 minutes in sports. Party accessories, Derby Pie and a real horseshoe from one of the horses that has run at Churchill Downs (how fun is that).

Gee, because we are so knee deep into missionaries, we tend to forget it is derby time. However, it has been fun for us this year because we have had several returned missionaries come to Louisville and stop by to say hello. That has been a real treat for us!
