Strawberry Season!

Here in the central valley, strawberry season happens twice a year and right now is the first round. The strawberries are sooo delicious. It is hard not to eat a whole bushel in one sitting.
So, for Mutual the other night, we had to take advantage and make strawberry freezer jam. It is so easy and something the girls could take home with them. I think they really liked it. The shocker to them was how much sugar is required to make jam. They couldn't believe it. It was good for them to see the hidden "dangers" of certain foods. They taste good, but there is a reason.
Here is the recipe we used:
INGREDIENTS
* 2 cups crushed fresh strawberries
* 4 cups sugar
* 1 (1.75 ounce) package dry pectin
* 3/4 cup water
DIRECTIONS
1. Mix crushed strawberries with sugar, and let stand for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, stir the pectin into the water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, and boil for 1 minute. Stir the boiling water into the strawberries. Allow to stand for 3 minutes before pouring into jars or other storage containers.
2. Place tops on the containers, and leave for 24 hours. Place into freezer, and store frozen until ready to use.
Also, here is the label I made for the containers, in case anyone wants to use it.

The receipe I used that is on the Ball brand of freezer jam mix takes a TON less sugar. It is 1 1/2 cups to 4 cups of strawberries. You might want to try it out because it tastes just as good! You don't have to cook or anything. You just mix the sugar and pectin mix with the strawberries and then you put it in the jars. No cooking involved. Check it out next time. =)
What is that font you used on the label? Too cute!
Oh I am behind... I need to make jam before the berries are gone. I live right in the middle of them, drive any dirrection from my house and within minutes you will have passed 2 or 3 fields with little stands selling strawberries. Going out of town this weekend, so hopefully they will still be going strong next week. I make about 80 jars every year for my family. My boys go through it like crazy!
What a great idea and a fun project to do with the kids! I don't know how the strawberries are right now here in CA but I want to do this. First time for anything huh? I also wasn't able to see a link for the jam label. Did you include it and I am just not very computer savvy? Thanks for the idea and instructions.
