Easter Lesson

For Family Home Evening this week, we had a fun Easter lesson about Jesus Christ's last week and the different events that lead to His resurrection. It involved the plastic easter eggs (which Hannah loved) and different objects to teach about Christ's and Easter.

This idea is not new, but it is great especially for little kids which I now have. So, in case you are looking for something to teach your children about the true meaning of Easter this Sunday, check it out.

Not as easy

I wanted to get some pictures of my girls in their adorable matching Crazy 8 outfits. So, I dressed them up and went outside with high expectations which came crashing down. I could not get the girls to look at me, smile at me or be still. I have been photographing a lot of teens and seniors lately, that I became spoiled.

But I did get some cute photos of the rebellion... hope you enjoy.

adorable shoes vs. cute shoes

I came across these adorable shoes the other day on another blog and fell in love with them. I keep thinking about them all the time. They are so original, classy and trendy all at the same time. But since I can't justify yet another pair of shoes (at this time and at this price), I am going to settle for these other cute pair of shoes. My sister told me about these cute little guys at Target, so today I am going to go and get me a pair. I think I can justify $22 for something so cute and versatile.

Senior Shoot #2

I was able to photograph one of my other YW for her senior pictures. I have to say I love doing this. The girls are so fun to work with, so photographic and my friends... what could be better. Here are some pictures of the shoot for Miss E and her mom. I am showing more photos than I planned on, but it was too hard to pick just a few, so here are a lot to look at. I hope you enjoy this sneak peak. Can't wait to show you the rest.

It's a Small World

....after all. There are so many reasons I like blogging, but one of them is the connections you make with others that you might never have known had it not been for this wonderful world of blogging. Case in point.

Elizabeth Harris, the one I did the logo for.... I have been reading her blog for almost a year now. I found her somehow (from some other blog I was probably reading). Well, back in August 2007 she posted an entry about her dear grandfather Wayne Brimhall Garff. The name "Brimhall" caught my eye. Why? Because "Brimhall" is MY maiden name. So, I decided to email her and ask her about it (since you don't see the name "Brimhall" very often.)

Well, she emailed me back to tell me more about her family name and we figured out that we are related. We both share a great (several time over) grandfather named George Washington Brimhall. Crazy, huh. Little did I know that this random woman's blog that I enjoyed reading and viewing was unbeknownst to me - actually related to me. We have tried to get together to do a swap photo shoot and now I have helped her with her logo.

I thought it would be fun to share yet one more reason blogging can be so great... the connections with people and then you find out they are related to you through distant relatives.

Open for Business

I have mentioned in the past that I have dabbled in logo design. Every once in awhile someone comes to me asking if I would design a logo for them. Just a few weeks ago, it happened again. I really enjoy it and love creating a person's brand (I think we should all have a personal brand whether we have a business or not).

So, I have decided to officially start taking on logo design projects along with my photography business. It is simple - for $60 (very cheap compared to most graphic design rates) I will give you 3-4 different concepts and than work with you to narrow it down to the logo that fits your brand.

So, spread the word! Here is the latest logo I created for Elizabeth Harris Photography. (Check her out, I love her stuff.) Thanks E for letting me be a part of your brand! Click on my ABW Design logo to the right to see more of my logo work.

Project Canvas - Success

I have a client/friend that is just awesome. She is having me take photos of all her kids and then to top it off, she is ordering these large (24X30) canvases of the photos to display in her house. Not only does she like the traditional photos, but she loves to have fun with the photos too. She is so much fun to shoot for and her kids are great.

Well, the canvases came in the other day and they were just spectacular. The "deco art" one was awesome. So, I had to take some pictures of the canvases themselves, just to show off how fun and great they looked. I can't wait to see all her kids pictures hung in her house well all is said and done. I have been inspired to do the same... I am trying to get a photo shoot of my girls to get a large canvas of them, but something keeps getting in the way. But hopefully soon :-)

An Idea for ABC's

I came across this fun poster or flash cards of ABC's by Jo-Anne Cavanagh. She created this ABC using objects around her house and her photography talent. I love it. And it gave me an idea on how to create my own version of ABCs.

I am going to create ABC flash cards using Disney characters and my photography "talent". I have been coming up with the list of characters for each letter of the alphabet. I have about 1/2 of them already, but I need to go back to Disneyland a few more times to get the rest. This could take a few years to complete, since we probably won't go back until September and I probably need a few more trips to complete it, but I will start to work on them, so I can get it done as soon as humanly possible.

Here is my list of Disney ABC Characters: (if anyone can come up with a better "x" "y" or "V", let me know.

A - Alice in Wonderland
B - Buzz Lightyear
c - Cinderella
D - Donald Duck
E - Eyore
F - Fairy Godmother
G - Gepetto
H - Hopper or Happy
I - Incredibles
J - Jiminey Cricket
K - King Louie
L - Little Mermaid
M - Mad hatter
N - Nemo
O - One hundred and one dalmations
P - pinocchio
Q - Queen of Hearts
R - Ratatouille
S - Simba or Sebation
T - Tinkerbell
U - Ursula
V - Villans
W - Woody or Winnie the pooh
X - xtra "something"
Y - Yummy
Z - zurg

Photo Shoot Complete

I finished up last weeks senior photo shoot. We went to two more spots... one being the Fresno Temple and as always the grounds didn't disappoint. They had poppies out and they were just beautiful. The perfect backdrop, especially with the shirt Miss K. was wearing. I had to show you these last photos. She was such a great girl to work... and so beautiful, don't you think? Enjoy!

Purse'nal Progress

First off, this is not my idea. My sister came up with this adorable idea. Even though I don't have to put together YW lessons anymore, I thought I would share this idea with my blog readers, just in case it is helpful. I know many of you are in YW. It really is a great idea to help motivate and encourage the YW to do their Personal Progress.

Check it out.

Candies on Display

My entry about Miette (the super cute candy and cake store) got me thinking about candy altogether. I love candy. I think maybe a bit more than chocolate. I definitely have a sweet tooth. Hot Tamales, Swedish Fish and my all time favorite - Jellie Bellies. I can eat them all like popcorn... just popping them into my mouth, one after another.

Well, someday (when I can show some self control and moderation) I want to have candy on display in my house. I love the way it looks. Bright colors, fragrant fruity smells and adorable glass containers. Who wouldn't want to live in a house surrounded by such sugary divinity.

But since my kids and I would eat sugar all day long, we will have to just imagine the prettiness. And wait for special occasions to indulge (like holidays, parties and showers). But that does set me on a quest to find cute glass containers for those special occasions.

Oh Easter Tree

About 8 years ago, I saw this wonderful tree in Martha Stewart Living. Every year, I see this image and think to myself... "Oh, how I want to make this little Easter Tree". And every year goes by and it doesn't happen.

Well, this still isn't the year, unfortunately. I think I will wait until Hannah is old enough to help me blow out the eggs. Make it a yearly tradition with my kids. But I wanted to show how cute this tree is. I absolutely love it. Although, I am not sure where you can get pussy willows. I am thinking Michael's might have them in their fake flower section. But then again, I think there is something to say for fresh pussy willows (it is spring, after all).

Someday, I will put up my own Easter tree. Maybe one of you can beat me to it :-)

Candy and Eye Candy

Okay, I love going to San Francisco. And one of my absolute favorite places to visit is the Ferry Building Marketplace. I could spend hours there. (On a side note, they have a great diner that we always eat at called Taylor's Refresher.. great grub.)

I haven't been to San Fran in almost a year and since I have been gone, the cutest, most adorable shop opened up there... called Miette. I talked about them on my blog almost a year ago. They make the most beautiful cakes I have every seen, but I didn't know they have a candy shop too. This shop is not only full of candy, but eye candy as well.

So, once my life calms down and we need a vacation, it is up to San Fran to check out this little gem of a place. It has been too long.

Senior Photos

I had my first real senior photo shoot yesterday with one of my young woman. She is so pretty and it was such fun to take her photo all over town. I have so many to sort through and choose from, but I wanted to give her and her mom a little preview... to hopefully get them excited. So, here you go ladies.

And I have another senior shoot this week, so stay tuned for more.

Blurb my Blog

The big question I get a lot about blogging is how can you save or preserve all that work. It seems like such a waste of time, if you can't save it somehow. Well, there is a great way to save it and turn it into a book to be read for generations to come.

I have been working on turning my blog into a book for some time now and finally got the first 8 months captured and turned into a book. It came the other day in the mail and here it is. I am so excited to have all the memories, thoughts and pictures bond into a book to be read by my girls when they get older.

It is our family journal and it is so much fun to look at and read. So, if anyone out there is thinking "how can I preserve my blog?" check out Blurb, it is fairly easy and fairly cheap and such a great way to keep family memories forever.

Proof is in the photos

I thought I better take some pictures of Ella actually walking. You know capture it for her baby book. It is so cute to watch little ones right as they are learning to walk, right before they learn how to master it. It is a wonder to watch so much energy and thought and pride go into each little step. You can see the intensity and joy she puts into it... trying so hard. In a few weeks, it won't be a struggle, she will just do it without a second thought. I am glad I got these photos to show her later on in life. She is a hard worker.

A Day off

I don't really have anything to write about. Which is weird, since I always seem to come up with something to share on the blog. Probably because we spent all day cleaning our house getting it ready to show. Which means I haven't given the blog much thought. So, without much to say, i will just post a picture of my girl. I love this photo, I think she looks so pretty. Have a great Sunday day!

Right Here, Right Now

I'm not ready:
to move in about 2-3 weeks.

I am ready:
to get our house sold and be done with it.

I'm inspired by:
fabric and paper. I love all the many different patterns out there. It makes me want to create.

I'm still waiting: for a solution to fix our printer. Everything is breaking down and it is really starting to frustrate me.

I'm thinking about: doing a photo shoot of my girls in their matching spring outfits and Easter dresses.

I'm looking forward to:
two senior photo shoots next week.

I can't stop thinking about:
this week's LOST.
