YW Lesson Handout Ideas

I was asked by our YW president to give a little lesson on creating handouts for the young women lessons. She also asked if I would give some examples of handout ideas for upcoming lessons. Since, I did the work, I thought I would share with you too.

Please note that most of them are my ideas, but some I did get from SugarDoodle, so I don't want to take credit those that I didn't come up with.

Growing and Maturing in Self-Reliance - Lesson 11 and 12
Get fortune cookies (you can even chocolate dip them and roll in sprinkles) and put in a take-out box (or put 2 in a plastic baggie) and attach with ribbon the following saying: “Fortunate is the Young Woman who realizes self-reliance has less to do with reliance on self and more to do with reliance on God.”

Get a packet of seeds of flowers or fake flowers at Michaels and attach with ribbon the following quote by Pres. Spencer W. Kimballl.
“For the first decade of your life there were joyous, happy, irresponsible days. Your parents and family protected you, taught and fed you, clothed and sheltered you; but now in the second decade of your life there is some relaxation of control. Gradually you are developing your personality, making increased numbers of your own decisions. You are “GROWING” and assuming responsibility”

Go to Target and look at all the easter items (especially their Dollar Spot) and find anything that has to do with eags or chicks or just use the marshmallow chick PEEPS and attach the following poem with ribbon.
“Some hatchings hurt. … And the new learning softness is so very tender.
It’s frightening to be nothing more than palest puff that peeps.
And so remember and remember clarion call to shelter:
“I will gather …as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings …”
A place to grow in strength.” (Dianne Dibb Forbis, New Era, Dec. 1977, p. 7.)

Sustaining Priesthood Bearers - Lesson 13

Buy some lifesavers and replace the wrapper with a homemade wrapper that says “Supporting and Sustaining the priesthood will save your life.”

Buy some mini Big Hunk Candy bars (at Savemart in the candy aisle) and attach the following saying with ribbon... “Support and Sustain the Priesthood with the strength of a Big Hunk.”

The Melchizedek Priesthood - Lesson 15
Get a PowerBar and attach the following quote from Elder James E. Faust with the title THE PRIESTHOOD HAS POWER TO BLESS MY LIFE (or anything along those lines). “Priesthood POWER is the POWER and authority delegated by God to act in His name for the salvation of His children. Caring for others is the very essence of priesthood responsibility. It is the POWER to bless, to heal, and to administer the saving ordinances of the gospel. It must be exercised in great love.”

Get key cut-outs and put three together using ribbon and write on the first one PRIESTHOOD, on the seond AARONIC and the third MELCHIZEDEK and an additional circle or square that has the scripture D&C 124: 123..

On a sheet of paper copy the Offices and Responsibillities in the Melchizedek Priesthood
(from the manual) and include clip art of keys or attach a key cut-out with ribbon.

Women and Priesthood Bearers - Lesson 16
Go to Michaels and in the back of the store they have little 2 inch high teddy bears for about $1.50, or put gummy bears in a plastic bag and using ribbon attach the following saying “Help Priesthood Bearers "BEAR" their Priesthood honorably!”

The Purpose of Covenants and Ordinances - Lesson 17
Buy those candy rings and attach the following saying with ribbon
“I DO” promise to keep the covenants I made at baptism.”

Temple Marriage - Lesson 18
Showing the difference between temporal marriage and eternal marriage. Comparing marriage to donuts. A doughnut is like a temporal marriage, sweet and delicious but built around a big hole- till death do we part. Include with the donuts a handout a note saying- "DONUT" settle - marry the right person in the right place at the right time.”

I can't believe you are already on lesson on 11! We just started the section on the Fulfilling Women's Divine Roles. Can you recall any ideas for the lessons #6-11?
